Eighteen
years ago we drove into Cilento and fell in love with its beauty, and
then decided to share it with independently minded holidaymakers.
Cilento is a National and Maritime Park and the landscape becomes more
verdant as the abandoned farms, villages and countryside revert back to
nature. The coast is rugged with hills descending to the sea,
interspersed with golden sandy beaches. The sea is clear. Recently,
Isola Licosa has been designated as a Maritime Park. Picture on the
right is of the sandy beach between Santa Maria and San Marco.
On
sunny days, the colours range from azure through to the darkest blue.
The mountains are spectacular and cause local weather variations which
can be amazing. Monte Stella (1130m) and the Vallo di Diano stand out
as major natural attractions. The unique coastline between Marina di
Camerota and Scario is natural with no modern buildings and has some of
the most spectacular natural bays and inlets in this part of the world
including Porto Infreschi which is only accessible by boat or on foot.

Between
Salerno and Agropoli lies a productive alluvial plain. This area is
known both as the vegetable garden of Italy and the famous Mozzarella
region. Many of the vegetables and fruits bought in UK supermarkets are
grown here. Imposing itself above the plain is Mount Cervati (1848m),
high enough to be a ski resort. Picture shown is of the Greek temples
at Paestum and shows the alluvial plain surrounding it.
Hotels,
apartments and B&Bs are typically small and family run. We have
chosen a small range set in the Castellabate Community. They vary from
c16th to brand new. We have stated the "Best time" for non Italians to
stay in every case.
Sambucus
Vacanze is located in Santa Maria di Castellabate - a commune in the
province of Salerno, southern Italy. The town is only 3km away from the
old town of Castellabate, 12 from Agropoli, 20 from Acciaroli and 60
from Salerno.
