Blue Banner beaches extended
Santa Maria di Castellabate is inspected annually for the coveted "Blue Banner" award for clean beaches, sea and its immediate environment. In fact the area has been extended from Tresino (end of Lago Beach) to the famous Punta Licosa. The beaches have been voted as the "best in Italy" in a Blue Banner beach poll (May 2011).
"Castellabate" - Star of two major films
Two recent films have used Santa Maria and Castellabate as the setting for "Benvenuti al sud" and the sequel. Voted one of Italy's best comedy films, the film showcases the area. Definitely "Welcome to the South!" Recently, the Italian President and the former Prime Minister introduced the then Vice President of the USA to Castellabate after the commemoration of Italy's 150 anniversary of re-unification. In fact, the making of "Benvenuti al Sud" was used as the back drop for the visit.
